With its beautiful aromas and lush texture, hallmarks of the 2004 vintage, this Sonoma County Zinfandel has a bit of a twist. Syrah! Composed of bits and pieces of Fava, Mounts, and Teldeschi zinfandels, 23% Russian River Valley syrah was blended into the final wine. Why? Because we liked it! Perhaps we should have called this “Shirazin”! Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note: Dark ruby in color. Despite the syrah component, the nose shouts zinfandel with aromas of black cherry, raspberry, and a hint of white pepper. Full bodied and concentrated but with excellent acidity and a hint of tannin on the finish. This is quite serious for a “county” wine. Peak enjoyment should be from late 2006 through 2010.
