We love petite sirah for its burliness and rusticity. Doing Brontosaurus steaks on the grill tonight? Open a bottle of pet! Picked on October 20th and 23rd, each component was fermented separately and left on the skins for 29 days before being pressed to all French oak, 40% new. Bottled unfined and unfiltered after 14 months in barrel.
Tasting Note: Black ruby-purple. A powerful, blueberry-laden nose is complimented by intriguing notes of iron and earth. Full-bodied and concentrated but with a measure of elegance rarely found in a petite of this size. Enjoyable now with plenty of time in a decanter (and if you don’t mind tannin), this petite has the balance of fruit and structure to age gracefully for up to several decades. (MRO – 3/1/07)
